Ugh. Just. Ugh.
I'm so pissed about this, I can't be happy that Hopey McDreams won in a LANDSLIDE HISTORIC ELECTION VICTORY SNORT.

"This has been a moral battle," said Ellen Smedley, 34, a member of the Mormon Church and a mother of five who worked on the campaign. "We aren't trying to change anything that homosexual couples believe or want -- it doesn't change anything that they're allowed to do already. It's defining marriage. . . . Marriage is a man and a woman establishing a family unit."

"It doesn't change anything that they're allowed to do already" is complete and utter bullshit, and she fucking knows it, and I want to fist rape her and her family unit with a glove made from heroin AIDS needles.

STOP THE MORMON AGENDA! SIGN THE PETITION!

Maybe Barry can help?

seriously, that shit is infuriating. one thing that sets off a major WTF? alarm for me is that seven in 10 black voters backed the initiative. you'd think that populations who themselves have been historically discriminated against would be more sensitive about doing it to others, but i guess you'd be wrong. there is something fundamentally retarded about allowing civil rights to hinge on the popular vote. fuckerz.

also, i miss you........ i should come visit soon?

Seriously flawed logic. I read an article that briefly interviewed a black man who came out to vote in support of Obama and struggled with how to vote on Proposition 8 because, to paraphrase him, on one hand he could see how it was fundamentally wrong to vote down a minority as he cast a vote in favor of another, but on the other hand his fucking bible told him it was "just plain wrong [for gays to marry]." I'm more incensed at these dunderheads who actively, consciously understood the consequences and still voted for it, than the people who are too fucking stupid to see how hypocritical they're being.

Yes! I invited you to my housewarming party, did you not get my fabulous email?! I'm working this weekend, but what about next weekend?

I know. I actually cried because of this. Though I was drunk. Connecticut is now more liberal than California? WTF?

However. These things take a very long time. I know you said you can't be happy about O winning but that is an absolute sign that the country is moving in the right direction.
I am disgusted it passed. But I am also convinced that eventually it will change, though I think something will have to be done on a federal level. And Clinton already signed that away with the 'defense of marriage' act. So it'll be a long battle. But it will happen. It's just that we are in the middle of the process, not the end.

PS. I HATE California's proposition system. Absolutely hate it. You get a bunch of retards to sign a petition, throw a bunch of money on it and it becomes law. What the fuck?

AND, remember that Obama wants to get rid of DOMA. Not the same thing as if McCain got elected, who supports it. What sucks is that Obama has said he does not support gay marriage, only separate but (not) equal civil unions.

All good points. I'm just annoyed at the irony of electing a minority president in spite of another minority: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/11/05/state/n111547S31.DTL

And I blame the Mormons, who have historically been discriminated against, yet decided that this kind of intolerance is acceptable.

Even though I recognize that there is a palpable feeling of "progress" and "change" in the air, I'm pissed off that some, in their shortsightedness, don't want to apply it to everyone, equally.
